When I heard our "esteemed" president say this back around his 2021 inauguration, I laughed in the privacy of my living room. After all, who expects a politician - any politician - to tell the truth? Well, I thought, this is such an easy promise to make and should be an easy one to keep, perhaps old slow Joe will follow through.
Then, I thought a little more and told myself that he won't keep this promise. Perhaps he will fire a lowly clerk who doesn't have sufficient resources - think clout and value - to successfully challenge him. But, old slow Joe sure won't tangle with, let's say, a high ranking official such as his Secretary of State.
Think of the turmoil old Joe would endure if he were to fire his chief of staff, Jeff Zients, for calling the Speaker of the House a vulgar name.
Don't kid yourself for one minute. Our esteemed president is unlikely to fire anyone for disrespecting others.
So, why did he utter such nonsense? I can think of only one reason: the hope people won't dare to disrespect others now that the big guy has issued his ultimatum. Old slow Joe is making good use of his bully pulpit.
Here's a question for your intellectual consumption. Has old Joe fired anyone yet for such a violation? If he has, I've not heard or read about it happening.
